Silver Spring, Md. -- Pete Buttigieg has declared his candidacy for president, as a Progressive due to his uncertainty about Senator Warren’s efficacy as potential president.
He shared concerns about the generational gap between himself and Warren. “I don’t think that [Warren] represents everyday Americans and people of my generation. My generation will be the first generation to deal with the reality of climate change. They're gonna be the first generation to not be better off than their parents materially, if nothing changes. This is the generation that needs to be represented.”
He believes that running as a millennial will secure him the presidency.
“The reason why Democrats lost in the 2016 election is because they didn’t get the support of millennial voters. The reason why millennial voters haven’t been voting recently is because they've had to choose between one baby boomer or another.”
He also has confidence in his ability to appeal to conservatives.
“I’m a devout Christian and I was on Fox news, Elizabeth Warren decided not to go on Fox news.”
Buttigieg has found support from some major party figures, who haven’t yet endorsed him because they were waiting for him to declare his candidacy. He has also spoken to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez about her support, and she said she would consider it.
Buttigieg added that he is considered accepting Warren’s request to run with her as a Vice Presidential Candidate.
“The campaign staff of Elizabeth Warren spoke to me, asking if I would consider it, I am considering bit first I want to see how much support I can get as a third party candidate.” He said that hypothetically, if he is unable to get enough support, which he highly doubts, he would seriously consider it.
Buttigieg believes that he is the only candidate who has the ability to gain the support of millennials, and to win over conservative voters. He will be explaining his policies in greater detail later on.
